Category: Magento 1.9

Magento CMS static block or simply Magento static block is a block that allows the Magento shop admin to add and control chunks of HTML code that can be displayed throughout the site. Sales block, seasonal banners etc are some of the examples where this can be used.

Here are the steps using which you can create a Magento static block :

  • Login to your Magento admin backend.
  • Go to CMS > Static Blocks menu.
  • In the resultant page you will see the list of static block that are available. Here, click the “Add New Block” button to create a new static block.
  • In the resultant page, fill out the following details
    • give a recognisable title for your static block under “Block Title” option
    • give an identifier for your static block under “Identifier” option
    • select the store view in which the Magento static block will be displayed
    • ensure that the status is set to “enabled”
    • add the html content for the static block
  • Save your static block./li>

Now your static block is ready. Next you will have to add this static block to the frontend.

Here we are going to see the simplest way to add the static block to the home page of your shop front-end. For this, follow the following steps :

  • Go to CMS > Pages menu.
  • Find the home page in the list of pages and open it to edit./li>
  • Under the “Content” tab of the home page, add the following line of code : Here make sure that you replace the id with your new static block identifier.
  • Save the page.

Now if you go to the home page of your Magento shop front-end, you will see the static block there.
